Why use Riverside Logistics for Local Transportation in Richmond, Williamsburg, Ashland, & Charlottesville?

By James Durfee

Use it or lose it. The name of the game in local transportation is “immediate gratification”. You usually pickup and deliver multiple times a day, and your pickups may be stretched out over the course of the 24 hours each day, night or day, rain or shine. Every time you make a pickup you provide the customer with immediate logistics gratification.

Riverside Logistics handles a vast amount of dedicated local movements in the central Virginia area (Richmond, Williamsburg, Ashland, Henrico, and Williamsburg markets). Headquartered near the Richmond International Airport, Riverside manages over 500 thousand square feet of warehouse space, Riverside doesn’t project a profile like your normal local shuttle operator. Riverside has been moving freight from warehouse to manufacturing, from manufacturing plants to warehouses, from warehouses to Ports (Richmond and Norfolk) and from Port(s) to warehouse. Riverside has moved product for locally based, nationally based and international customers for 20 years. They have a strong fleet of locally-based drivers that they utilize. Some of these drivers have been handling Riverside business for over 17 years. It is Riverside Logistics goal to demonstrate an unmatched level of commitment to its drivers and ultimately to its customers.

If your company needs freight to move within the Central Virginia market, either across the street or across the region, Riverside can move it, each and every day. Most shippers that Riverside does business with are repetitive, daily and/or weekly shippers, moving product within and across the Central Virginia marketplace. Local shippers are typically very demanding. They usually allow little room for error. They usually want extra services over and above the norm on an on-demand, as requested basis (ad hoc) and they also want the rates to be extremely competitive. That’s why Riverside has so much local Central Virginia business. We deliver and we use a repeatable process to make sure that we meet ALL of our shipper’s demands, consistently, every day.

Riverside Logistics completes the installation and upgrade of Infor’s SCE Warehouse Management System

Riverside Logistics has completed implementation of Infor’s SCE 10.2 WMS product in all of its warehouses. As of December 2015, all shipping and storage customers in each of our three warehouse facilities have been successfully migrated over to the new Warehouse Management System (WMS) platform.

This is great news for all of our customers. They now will have access to the latest technology developed for Third Party Logistics providers. Infor’s SCE fully integrates all the capabilities and needs for warehouse management, including 3PL billing, and transportation management(TMS) under one platform.

Below are some key benefits our customers will realize from this installation:

  • Radio Frequency (RF) automation, providing faster, more accurate, inventory management activities, to reduce inventory levels when-ever and where-ever possible.
  • Real-time order status using an interactive web portal. This portal provides both standard canned reporting as well as ad hoc customer specific reporting capabilities. Customers have real time, critical data at their fingertips on demand all the time.
  • Advanced integration tools to upload master and transactional data quickly, allowing Business to Business data-sharing (EDI, flat-files, etc.) that reduce the cost of manual inputs and errors.
  • A fully integrated Transportation Management System (TMS) providing automated shipment creation and routing coupled to an optimization engine for lowest cost mode and carrier selection on all customer orders.

With this installation Riverside Logistics is providing all of its customer’s with state-of-the-art warehouse technology solutions that helps them lower their cost and improve the visibility and the efficiency of their inventories.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO HAVE A RAIL-SERVED WAREHOUSE?

RIVERSIDE LOGISTICS CSX-SERVED WAREHOUSING HELPS A NATIONAL PAPER MANUFACTURER MEET ITS OVERFLOW ROLL-STOCKING NEEDS

by James F Durfee, Vice President Business Transformation

Paper companies are typically in business to make paper, lots of paper! They then usually need a place, a big place, to store this paper before it is consumed. Logistics can sometimes become somewhat of an after- thought to the manufacturing process. When a major Paper Company in the Richmond area needed a rail-served location in Central Virginia to handle overflow Roll Stock, Riverside Logistics was there to help. With 100,000 square feet of warehouse space, served by the CSX railroad, and a staff trained and equipped to handle paper roll stock, Riverside flew into action and began receiving spill-over roll stock from the manufacturer via the CSX railroad. The boxcars kept coming and coming until over 75 thousand square feet of product was housed in Riverside’s warehouse. Riverside inventoried this product using its state-of-the-art WMS system. When it came time to ship the product out, Riverside arranged for all the local transportation necessary and utilized its dedicated fleet of carriers to move the product across the Richmond area.

Being rail-served and having the know-how and equipment to handle large rolls is just one of the many logistics capabilities of Riverside. Our combined total of almost 500,000 square feet of warehousing space in Central Virginia, with immediate access to the Port of Richmond and Norfolk, Interstate 95 and 64 for both East-West and North-South access and shipping uniquely positions us to competitively support all of our customers’ needs both long term and short term.

Legitimate Rail-served warehouses are becoming harder to find, especially in markets like Richmond. When you couple rail sidings with roll handling capability you end up with a fairly unique set of Logistics capabilities for customers needing these types of services.

Next time you need rail-served warehousing in Central Virginia, call us.
